Today is a day for fun with dead languages. The dead language of choice for today's fun is ancient Egyptian. Except we're not really using ancient Egyptian, just the hieroglyphics to spell English words. The hieroglyphs are here serving an orthographic purpose, obviously. These hieroglyphs spell 'f**king thesis', although because there is no asterisk in hieroglyphics, all the actual letters of the obscenity are used. This obscene graffiti was added to our fridge door by Circos, in an attempt to cheer me up during a particularly frustrating bout of thesis-writing. It totally worked. Hooray for hieroglyphic fridge magnets! If you would like to make your own orthographic dead language fridge fun, you can pick up a set of magnetic hieroglyphs from the Melbourne Museum while the awesome Tutankhamun exhibition is on (until 6 November).
