Odysseus and Stieg Larsson don't have much in common.
I love The Odyssey, and read it at least once a year. Christmas holidays are not the same without it, and I'm gradually teaching myself not to buy a spare copy whenever I see one, 'just in case my car breaks down'.
On the other hand, I've never read books by Stieg Larsson, but I feel like I have. Pellos read them, and hearing daily updates, plot summaries, excerpts from the novel and caustic asides about the characters (and the plot and the writing style and the genre) made me enjoy the books far more, I think, than if I'd actually read them myself.
Well, Pellos has never read The Odyssey, but I'd wager she'll feel like she has soon. Over the next few weeks, the Kiss My Eagle version of the Odyssey will unfold before your unwilling eyes. Action scenes, quotes (from the marvellous translation by Robert Fagles) and cursory plot summaries abound.
